Offered through Schola Humanistica
One of the more fascinating passages of Caesar’s De Bello Gallico has to be the digression on the customs, political structure, and the religion of the Gauls. In this seminar, we will focus on the rites of the Druids both by reviewing their well known aspects embedded in our collective imagination (worship of fountains and sacred groves, esoteric knowledge, councils that used to occur in the British isles), and by exploring less well known details that will help us examine the more raw and surprising elements of celtic religion.
