Offered through Schola Humanistica
This course will help you acquire the basics of ancient Greek, the language of poets, orators, and philosophers who laid the foundations of western thought. The instructional approach is communicative, meaning that sessions will be conducted entirely in Greek with a gradual increase in difficulty as the course proceeds. This will make it possible for you to acquire the structure of the language in a simple and enjoyable fashion. Another result of this approach will be an opportunity to immerse yourself in the Attic dialect, the language spoken Athens between the 4th-5th century BCE in which authors such as Plato, Thucydides, and the great tragedians expressed themselves. Due to its elegance and succinctness, it became a model for anyone who wrote in Greek. At the same time, it was a direct and vivid dialect employed daily in the marketplaces in the streets at the foot of the Acropolis, in the courts of palaces and in the countryside of Attica, as illustrated with a full array of colors in the comedies of Aristophanes.
Anyone who wants to learn the basics of Greek through simple and engaging approach.
